Trick or Trot

What do horses have to do with Halloween? Kentucky Horse Park put it all together.

We trotted out to the Georgetown/Lexington area for a long Halloween weekend. The fall colors were splendid and the temperature just right.

We came to see Hallowhinny – Kentucky Horse Park’s big Halloween party.

If you haven’t been, Kentucky Horse Park is a huge property with several museums, stables full of pure-breds, and multiple event courses for all the horse competitions.

We spent the whole afternoon walking the grounds. Horses of all sizes were paraded around in costume.

Lots of tiny tots were there to giggle at the horses. Candy was handed out at every barn, and even adults got a handful.

There are several show barns to visit, and we met retired champions from all the equine sports. We saw Triple Crown winners, Trotters and Pacers, Thoroughbreds, Drafts, and even Mounted Police.

A stroll through the visitor center leads you to the International Horse Museum, and it’s easy to spend a couple of hours there learning about the origins of all the breeds.

After a long afternoon of horsing around, it was time to kick back at the park’s campground and rest up in the RV.

Halloween evening found us at Lexington’s best sushi restaurant – Tachibana. As a testimony to it’s authenticity, the place was filled with Japanese executives from the nearby Toyota plant in Georgetown. If you love Japanese food, mark this one down!

We always have a good time in the Lexington area, and Kentucky Horse Park hosts many events throughout the year. Definitely worth a visit!
