Doesn’t every state have a town named Shelbyville? This one is in Kentucky.

Given that I’m not a bourbon drinker it’s surprising how many distilleries we visit. But that’s the thing to do around here.
Jeptha Creed is a boutique bourbon brand. I’d never heard of it before, but maybe you have? While the distillery was relatively small, their visitor center was built for a party.
They had a menu of swanky crafted cocktails. I tried the blueberry vodka. Most distilleries start with vodka production because is doesn’t have to be aged for years. It gives them a quick product to sell while time works on the main spirits.
The patio area was set up to serve a huge crowd but it was just us two for lunch that day. We shared wings and appetizers and declared it good.
Jeptha Creed hosts outdoor concerts during the summer. It’s a bit too far for us to attend, especially since there’s a similar stage at another distillery just a mile from our house.
Jeptha is a biblical figure, and this area was named named after him by Squire Boone, Daniel Boone’s brother. Tim sampled a flight of bourbons served up in tiny communion glasses. He liked the 6 year old wheated version best.
Duly fortified, we next spent some time at Shelbyville’s venerable antique store – Wakefield Scearce. I have fond memories of visiting this place decades ago. Now they offer primarily English silverware and fine furniture.
A quick stroll around downtown Shelbyville to find a coffee shop…
And there’s another distillery visit in the books!

You certainly manage to find a truckload of bourbons that I’ve never heard of before. Today’s offering definitely went for very different bottle design!
