These days you gotta take the good with the bad. I try to find a little something to be happy about each day. So I’m celebrating milestones this month, both major and minor.
It seems silly to celebrate a haircut, but after 6 months of living with a shag rug on my head it was a big day when my hairdresser finally opened back up. “Take a picture of all your hair on the floor!” he said. Could have made a Dolly Parton wig out of it.
A Big Birthday
We celebrated a milestone birthday with my mom who turned 90 a few weeks ago. We ate chocolate cake and opened presents. Well, sort of. Quarantine delayed the delivery of one of her gifts, so she got a picture of it wrapped in a box.
Our soybeans are sprouting and that’s a milestone because this year’s crop almost didn’t happen. A tragic farm accident killed the gentleman who usually plants our fields. It was a shock to the whole community and a reminder that farming is still a dangerous profession. We did find a replacement farming outfit, and they rushed to get the fields planted on time. So it’s bittersweet to see “them beans” coming up now.
It’s not every day that you’re asked to bury a dear friend in your backyard. This was a milestone event that we were deeply honored to host. Jason loved our cabin so much that he wanted it to be his last resting place. We held an outdoor memorial service with over 30 of his family and friends in attendance. It was a lovely tribute to our good friend and we know he’ll always be with us. Especially since Tim gave him permission to haunt the cabin. Jason would be pleased.
So in the middle of the Worst Year Ever, let’s try to find a little joy in each day. Celebrate the milestones, both major and minor. Find the happy before you have to face the crappy.
And try to Keep Smiling!
