Durbins Good Old Days

good old days

On the last day of summer, the Good Old Days were celebrated at Durbins farm.

Every year the Durbins family of Bardstown welcomes the community to their farm for a free picnic and antique tractor show.  Hundreds showed up on a sunny day as summer exhaled the last of its hot breath.

There’s hobbyists and experts in every field, and antique farm machinery is no exception. If it runs on steam, or gas, or coal, there’s some dude who knows how to fix it. He probably has a barn full of Good Old Days stuff.

There’s a lot to admire in these old machines. Many on display here were still operational and chugging away.

We also came for the good country picnic provided. The Durbins family doesn’t charge for this lunch, amazingly generous given the large crowd. We left a donation in their lock box.

Family-friendly activities were provided. I loved that the kiddy sandbox was filled with corn kernels.

Impressively, Tim knew a lot about this old equipment. He credits his “classical education” to growing up on a 100-year-old farm. Some of the same implements are gathering dust in our own barn! Anybody want to buy a horse-drawn tobacco setter?

The Good Old Days party continued into late afternoon, but with the mercury still climbing we exited a bit early.

Farewell Summer!

This looks like so much fun. I wish I could have been there with you. You find the best entertainment. I love the video so that we could see what moves.

One question! Does the horse come with the tobacco setter? That really isn’t something you see any day! 🙂
