Summer is over. Did you eat enough ice cream? Float in the lake enough?
End of summer found us moseying around to different locales. I caught an Elvis show at the venerable Lincoln Jamboree theater in Hodgenville. Eddie Miles, a locally renowned impersonator, put on his original Elvis suit for the show. He complained in a good-natured way about how heavy and hot it was. Ladies in the crowd hooted and hollered and threw their underwear on the stage. The mystique of Elvis lives on, even if it’s only for a look-alike.
The Bardstown Bourbon Festival was in full swing at the end of summer. It’s a big production and folks come from all over to participate. Being locals, we judiciously avoided the crowds. But we did go to some side events, like a hot air balloon glow.
We also took a little trip to Madison, Indiana – one of my favorite towns. Madison has 113 blocks of historic buildings, all carefully tended and restored. Just a lovely town to walk around.
I like to poke around the antique stores in Madison. Always find some treasure to bring home.
Madison is a bicycle-friendly town. There’s lots of trails and side streets to explore. We rode to the top of the big cliffs for a scenic view of the Ohio River.
Back at home we adventured with the Kentucky Railway Museum for a swell lunch and afternoon train ride.
It’s the end of summer and our garden looks pitiful. Didn’t have much luck growing anything this year. Just look at Tim’s watermelon harvest. Not even a spoonful!
I’m not sad summer is over. There’s only so much heat and humidity I can take. Looking forward to the cool crisp nights of Autumn – my favorite season.
Bring on the sweater weather!

More fun, diverse ventures from you! We’re planning a getaway to Madison Oct 19-22nd (1st visit). I booked a dog friendly Air B&B as we read it was a dog presently town, anticipating we could do outdoor hikes, cafe patios w Bodhi. Now wonder if there would be many more indoor options to explore that with Bodhi we would be restricted. If rain likely Beth has offered to keep Bodhi. Thoughts?
You’ll love Madison! Many dog-friendly places, like Lanthier Winery and Mad Paddle Brewery. Also a free dog park on the waterfront. There’s an app called Bring Fido that lists dog-welcome places 👍
Bring on the sweater weather for me, too!
I didn’t realize Madison had that many blocks in the historical district! Don’t think I’ve actually done more than drive through it since the late 1990s when I was in better walking shape. These days it’s cross the river and follow the route north to Versailles for a rest stop then on to one of my routes from there over to Dayton.
See you soon!
