The Kentucky State Capitol building holds some special artifacts – including one of my photographs!

The state capitol in Frankfort is a marvel of turn-of-the-century architecture. The marble, the grand staircases, the lofting ceilings and Ionic columns. It’s an impressive space, worthy of representing the state. They just don’t make them like this anymore!
A life-size bronze Lincoln stands in the central rotunda. It must be good luck to rub his foot, as evident by the shine on his left shoe.
At the moment the capitol building is empty, and by that I mean completely vacant. All offices and legislature chambers have been moved to temporary quarters as the whole capitol building undergoes a 2-3 year renovation. After 115 years, the place needs a little refresher and modernization. We took the opportunity to horse around in the empty chambers.
But the real reason for visiting was to view my photograph on display. In a slim hallway outside the Governor’s office is the Spring 2025 Art Exhibition, part of the Team Kentucky Gallery. My photo of Fraiser Swinging Bridge will be hung here through June.
After a good looky-loo at the capitol we headed to the historic district of downtown Frankfort. I recommend the restaurant Serafini for a fine lunch, reasonably priced. Tim recommends the record store across the street. Once again we are collecting vinyl records. What’s old is new again.
Since we were passing by on the way home, a short stop at Wild Turkey for a cocktail finished off the day.
A good day to get hung up in Frankfort!
