A small town craft beer fest as autumn begins.
It’s fall, so it’s time for the beer festivals to begin. I’m not much of a drinker, but I’ll go party with a bunch of friends!
The Bardstown Beer Fest was a ticketed event. For $40 you were issued a small glass to taste beers from regional breweries. A card of vendors let you keep score of your favorites. All samples were poured from cans and bottles, nothing on tap.
The Beer Fest was held in the farmer’s market pavilion and spilled over into the adjacent parking lot.
Unlike the big beer gardens in Germany, this event was standing only. High tops were provided to lean on, but no tables or chairs. I think they do that on purpose so folks don’t get too comfortable in their cups.
An axe throwing game was positioned in the back – best to avoid that area as the night wore on because aim got pretty unsteady. A local jug band entertained the crowd – no danger there.
The night grew a bit chilly, but heaters and more alcohol warmed things up. Saw a couple of over-indulgers stumble to the ground, but I bet they started earlier in the day. The samples weren’t big enough to do that much damage.
One more for the road and the party was done by 9:30 pm. Pretty tame.
The best part about Beer Fest was hanging with good friends all night. That was worth the ticket price!
